Nur Khan and Paul Sevigny’s sterling reputations for creating places people want to be remain untarnished. After a hearty dinner at the restaurant upstairs, head down to Kenmare’s basement for classic cocktails and classic rock spun by the hippest DJs in the city. The cavernous interior feels more like an exclusive den than a typical sleek downtown lounge; those who gain admittance will feel a part of a secret society. Initiated patrons who prefer quiet conversation to dancing will find plenty of secluded corners in the private alcoves, where you might end up next to an indie film star or fashion magazine editor. The heavily gilded, smoky-mirrored washrooms have been known to host all kinds of impromptu photo shoots. Our advice is to skip the weekend crowd; go on Sunday night and expect to learn or re-learn why we’re called the city that never sleeps.
